The Forest Hill State School Student Welfare Worker program aims to provide additional support to students and families as part of the school support teams. Our program prioritises students, family and community at their core. We are proud to currently partner with Ipswich Community Youth Services to provide this support.
Student Welfare Workers (SWW) are present in schools at the invitation of the Principal, in consultation with the local community, and with the support of the P&C Association. Our service is and funded with the support of the National School Chaplaincy and Student Welfare Program and generous donations from within our community.
What does a Student Welfare Worker (SWW) do?
A SWW is a safe person for young people to connect with at school and provides a listening ear, caring presence, and a message of hope. SWWs run positive, fun activities for students and assist in fostering supportive, caring school communities.
The SWW is a part of the Student Support team at the school, where they work together to give assistance to the school community. Working alongside other caring professionals, our SWW offers support to students struggling with emotional needs such as world view, difficult relationships with other children or family members, poor self-esteem and family breakdowns..
What does Student Welfare Support look like at Forest Hill State School?
The SWW offers a wide range of activities and programs to students. The SWW often assists with school functions and activities such as camps, sports carnivals, excursions etc. Organised small group programs and lunchtime groups are offered at times throughout the year. Students are identified with needing support from teachers, which may include participating in programs that the SWW facilitates. The SWW is also available for personal appointments for both students and staff.
Will my child be involved?
Involvement with the SWW is entirely voluntary. Parents will be consulted if their child wishes to be involved in ongoing one-to-one meetings with the SWW or in any programme or group. Parents have the right to refuse permission for their child to be involved in any SWW activity or event.
Who is the Forest Hill School Student Welfare Worker, and how can I contact them?
The School SWW is Olivia Masuino and she is available at the school. If parents wish to speak with Olivia or make an appointment please contact our school office. Students will find Olivia in the student support room or involved in activities at the school.
